News Stories Writing Unit
April, 2009 News Stories: The Lead
Now that we all have a topic and know what type of News Story we will be writing, our class is working on writing The Lead.

As we've read different examples of a Lead we've come to see that a good Lead should include these four rules:
1) Grab the reader's attention and gets the reader interested in reading more;
2) Uses, humor, voice, creative writing, or tells a story related to the topic;
3) Does not give many facts or details yet about the topic or story;
4) Should be a short paragraph or a few sentence long.
March 6th, 2009 Picking a Type of New Story
Our class is beginning a new unit in Writing called News Stories. We hope to publish our very own school newspaper! We will be working on writing the following types of news stories:
Breaking News Story: A news story about a current event happening in our school community.
Feature Article: An indepth report about a topic dealing with our school community that is special, important, or interesting for people to know and learn about.
Editorial: An article that tries to persuade the reader to agree with your opinion about an issue important to your school community.
Column: A news story where a writer shares his or her thoughts about one topic.
